Did you know that onions are very important for health? I did not, until recently. I have been finding myself including onions in almost all of our daily meals, in some way or another. I was curious if doing so was beneficial to our health in any way. Thanks to good ole’ Google, I did some research and to my surprise, onions are VERY beneficial to you health, and you don’t always have to cook them.
I learned that onion is a daily must have which helps you stay away from many infections and diseases. If you are sick and you are looking for a quick heal medicine, then onions are your best option.
You might be thinking to yourself, ‘but onions STINK’. Yes, yes, they do. The pungent odor might have been keeping you away from trying onions. Do yourself a favor, give them a try. Not going to lie, the odor will make your nose turn up, they will make you get squinty-eyed, feel as if your nose hairs are burning, and they will make you, and anyone else in the kitchen while you are cutting them up, cry like a baby, but… they are totally worth it. My husband had the bright idea to put our daughters swimming goggles on while cutting up an onion. Problem solved. He looked a little silly but we no longer cry while cutting our onions.
Onions are loaded with many chemicals which keep you away from illness and also make you glow due to its detoxification properties. Just to name a few of the on-going list of health benefits of an onion.
A small piece of onion when inhaled can stop or slow down the bleeding through the nose. (I don’t know if I would try this one but hey, if you are brave enough, go for it!)
Onions have anti-biotic, antiseptic, antimicrobial and carminative properties to help you stay away from infections.
Onions are rich in sulphur, fibers, potassium, vitamin B, vitamin C and they are low in fat, cholesterol and sodium.
It is an immediate cure for fever, common cold, cough, sore throat, allergies etc. A mixture of onion juice and honey can cure these problems easily.
A small piece of onion can work against side effects of fever if it’s kept on the fore head.
An onion a day can cure insomnia or sleeping disorders. This will surely give you a good night sleep.
Onions can improve digestive system. If you have digestion problem, then onions can cure it by increasing the release of digestion juices.
Inflammation from Arthritis in the joints which can be healed with onions.
There is a small trick with onions to get some relief from body pains. Onions should be fried in sesame or castor oil and can be used to heal any aches.
This is also used for toothaches and tooth decaying.
For good memory and strong nervous system, consuming onions is your best bet.
Onions cure menstrual disorders. Raw onions should be consumed before a few days at the beginning of your cycle.
Onion juice can cure burnt skin or an insect bite or a bee bite. It may burn more but it can heal it very effectively.

Onions increases insulin in the body and also treats diabetes by controlling the sugar levels in the blood.
