Summer is definitely here in Florida. Our high today was only 90 degrees but other days it is ridiculously HOT. Last week, it got to 103/104 degrees during the day. To help try to keep cool, my daughter & I enjoy making home made ice cream a few times of week. Last week, we made home made chocolate chip cookie sandwiches with vanilla ice cream & colorful sprinkles. This weekend I think we will make the same mini milk shakes we made for independence day, to help celebrate Labor day, which is on Monday, September 2nd.
Red, white and blue mini milkshakes. My daughter calls them “the America milkshakes” or “the grand ol’ flag milkshakes.” Leave it to a five year old to make up the name and they will always come up with something creative.
What you will need to make your red, white and blue mini milkshakes:
- ice cream cones, glasses or bowls, which ever you prefer
- vanilla ice cream (homemade or store bought)
- strawberry ice cream
- blueberry ice cream
- whipped cream
- red, white and blue sprinkles
You can also use frozen yogurt if you would like, sometimes I prefer the frozen yogurt rather than the ice cream… less calories! We like to use glasses to make our red, white and blue mini milkshakes so you are able to actually see the color difference. They are so pretty and patriotic.
How to get your mini milkshake started:
Start with what ever you choice, ice cream cone, glass, bowl or anything else you would want to use. First scoop out a scoop of blueberry ice cream and put it at the bottom of your glass, after doing so, place your glass(I will reference glass since that is what we prefer to use) in the freezer for about three to four minutes to let it freeze up a bit, then scoop the regular vanilla ice cream into the glass, repeat putting it into the freezer for three to four minutes, take it out and then add your strawberry ice cream to the top. Finish it off with some whipped cream and sprinkles for a pretty, tasty treat to help you cool off on those ridiculously hot days or when you just want a cool, sweet treat.
I like to buy fun, silly and colorful straws to help us enjoy our milk shakes. It is always enjoyable to see the excitement in your child eyes when they are drinking a sweet treat out of a fun, silly and colorful straw. Enjoy!
