Have Fun Making a Homemade Advent Calendar

December begins this weekend and it’s the perfect time to create an Advent calendar with the kids. Gone are the days of the old-fashioned cardboard Advent calendar with little doors to open and pictures behind them. These aren’t your mother’s Advent calendars! And to think, those simple cardboard picture boxes were exciting enough each day, I can only imagine how much fun it would be to wake up to one of these calendars each day counting down to Christmas.

If you want each day to be a surprise for the kids, you can create the calendar yourself. You can make a huge wall calendar for December and hang a tiny paper gift bag on a pin in each day’s square. In each bag place either a small treat such as a couple chocolate kisses or write an activity your kids can do that day such as “wrap a gift for daddy,” “bake Christmas cookies with Mommy” or “have a snowball fight.” This combination of activities and treats will keep your kids guessing and excited throughout the month leading up to the big day.———————————————————————————————————————————————————————
