Koolaid Play Dough Recipe

We had a big birthday in our house this year. My oldest son turned 5! He had been looking forward to his birthday for weeks, counting down until his big day. As luck has it, though, he contracted a stomach bug the night before and was feeling horrible on his birthday. We had plans to go out to eat, go to the movies, and enjoy some time at the park. I didn’t want us to not do anything, but I knew we had to keep it low key. I came across a homemade play dough recipe that sounded delicious (to be honest with you, this is why I decided to make it with the kids). Well, I strongly advise you to NOT try the dough; it’s horrible. However, it does smell amazing and gives your kitchen a sweet lingering scent, as well as gives the children something fun to do while stuck inside the house. They had just as much fun making the dough as they did playing with it! It only takes about 5 minutes per batch, and each batch makes a very generous amount! You can use any flavor Koolaid, the packets are 25 cents at the store and the color of the dough depends on the flavor packet you use.*

What you’ll need:  1 cup flour 1/4 cup salt 2 Tbsp cream of tartar 1 envelope unsweetened Koolaid 1 cup water 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil

To make:

1. Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar, Koolaid and water in medium saucepan. Stir in oil.

2. Mix over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until mixture forms a ball in the center of pan. Dough will start darkening in color.

3. Remove from pan {caution: will be HOT}. Knead until soft.

4. Store in airtight container or ziploc bag.

*Play dough colors are as follows: fruit punch is red, orange is orange, lemonade is yellow, lemon-lime is green, berry blue is blue, grape is purple, pink lemonade is pink. You may add a few drops of food coloring to brighten the color, though, the only one that I felt needed the color boost was lemonade (yellow).
