Why Throw Out Those Puzzles with Missing Pieces? Turn Them Into Art Instead!

puzzle-piecesWe’ve all been there; our kids have tons of puzzles, but most of them are missing pieces. So, when we discover the missing links, we simply toss the entire puzzle. Don’t do that anymore! Our family has a solution for you and your misfit puzzles; turn them into masterpieces. My daughter has created her own magnets and pins using puzzle pieces, paint, and a small magnetic dot or pin clasp for the back.

Creating these masterpieces is simple.  Cover an area designated for painting. First, have your child paint each puzzle piece a solid color. Once all pieces have dried, then have your child go back and add a design or image to each piece. The imagination that springs from this project is incredible. After the paint dries, simply attach a magnetic dot, strip, safety pin, or pin clasp.

My daughter plans to sell her pieces at our yard sale to raise money for The American Heart Association as well as our local Humane Society. She adores cats, and heart disease has affected so many members of our family. This project allows us to recycle, think creatively, and sponsor groups that are near and dear to us. So, before you toss those puzzle boxes, think again.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

*PUZZLE PIECES—USE THE BROWN CARDBOARD SIDE

*PAINT—we used acrylic—in colors of your choice

*SAFETY PINS, PIN CLOSURES FROM A CRAFT STORE, AND/OR MAGNETIC

*DOTS OR STRIPS

*NEWSPAPER to cover your surface

*ANY OTHER ITEMS FOR ADORNING—EXAMPLES:  Jewels, Beads, Glitter, etc.

*GLUE—to attach added extras if you wish

I tried my hand at it too.  It’s not just fun for kids; everyone can enjoy this activity!  Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
